FiscoSplit

It tells you how much to set aside for VAT, taxes and social contributions on every invoice you collect, in the worst case.

FiscoSplit, For Italian freelancers

Why I built it

I built it because nobody could answer me. I asked three accountants how much of an invoice would actually stay in my pocket: three different answers, all correct and all useless. It depends on costs, on advances, on when you get paid. True. But I only wanted to know how much I could spend without running short in June.

So I flipped the question. Instead of the exact figure, which is only known at year end, it works out the worst one: zero deductible costs, the maximum you might owe. Set that aside and you are never short, and when the real calculation arrives you get the difference back.

Then there is the second-year trap. In year one you pay little and think you are fine; the year after, the balance of the closed year and the advance on the new one land together. FiscoSplit shows it from month one.

What it does

  • A public calculator on the home page, no sign-up: amount, tax regime, pension fund, and the invoice is split into its parts.
  • Flat-rate and ordinary regimes, INPS separate management and professional pension funds.
  • Other income: if there was a salary in the same year, freelance income stacks on top and lands in a higher bracket. Generic calculators skip this.
  • With a free account: register of invoices issued and collected, monthly amount to set aside, deadline calendar, reminders, XML invoice import.
  • Data export and sharing with your accountant.
  • Tax parameters updated by year, with the source stated next to every figure.

One clarification

I built it outside working hours. It is not my trade, it is something I enjoy.
